About the role

Seasonal employment opportunities have become available for the 2026 cane crushing season at Mackay Sugar. The season is expected to run from early June 2026, until December 2026.

Mackay Sugar is particularly eager to receive applications from people who have a passion for the Sugar Industry and have a strong desire to see the local industry thrive.

Rollingstock Positions

  • General Mill Worker

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor – Locomotives, you’ll play a key role in supporting trade and non-trade personnel within the Rolling Stock team. You’ll contribute to meeting safety, quality, and productivity targets while thriving in a continuous improvement environment driven by clear systems, processes, and discipline. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships are essential to your success.

Job Requirements:

  • Manual Driver's License
  • Forklift (LF) (Highly regarded)
  • Dogger (DG) (High regarded)
  • Working At Heights certificate (highly regarded)
  • Previous Roles in the Rail Industry
  • Previous Roles working in similar position as a T.A./Service Person on Mobile Plant

Summary of Position:

Assist in the Repair/Maintain of Mackay Sugars Diesel Hydraulic Fleet of Locomotives

  • Maintain high levels of safety
  • Pass fitness for work testing
  • Assist trades & non trades people with Rollingstock Maintenance
  • Complete Work Orders & documentation up to the standard required and set out by the supervisor
  • Topping up oil, grease, and coolant tanks
  • Cleaning & maintain workshops
  • Operating high pressure gurneys to clean Rollingstock
  • Disposing of waste oil & rubbish in accordance with site requirements
  • Manage Service kits
  • Isolation & Tagging
  • Work at heights
  • Willingness to work rotating shift work including weekends & overtime as required
  • Ability to work in hot/humid environments
