Experienced Surface Coordinator / Planner
The Surface Coordinator / Planner is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely coordination of all surface support services for an underground coal mining operation. Working within a small team of coordinators, this role ensures that key service contracts—such as surface earthworks, mine logistics, and cleaning services—are effectively planned, executed, and monitored to meet operational objectives.
The role also supports the delivery of environmental and rehabilitation projects and ensures compliance with site standards, contractor obligations, and company procurement processes.
Key responsibilities
Weekly Planning & Work Coordination
Develop and maintain weekly work plans for multiple surface support crews.
Coordinate small civil earthworks teams undertaking repairs, drainage maintenance, and general surface works.
Plan and schedule mine logistics support activities, including materials handling, haulage, and site transport.
Ensure alignment of planned works with production, maintenance, and environmental priorities.
Contractor Management & Compliance
Oversee day‑to‑day performance of cleaning services, logistics providers, and earthworks contractors.
Conduct regular work area inspections and monitor contractor performance against scope.
Implement and maintain contractor compliance processes, including documentation checks and onboarding requirements.
Carry out audits in accordance with site safety, environmental, and quality systems.
Procurement & Administration
Initiate procurement activities, including raising purchase requisitions and creating purchase orders in SAP.
Track costs, service delivery, and contract performance to ensure value for money.
Maintain records, reports, and work schedules to support operational planning and contract governance.
Environmental & Rehabilitation Projects
Coordinate and execute surface environmental projects including subsidence remediation, drainage repairs, and land rehabilitation.
Monitor environmental controls and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and approvals.
Liaise with environmental specialists, contractors, and operational teams to deliver project outcomes safely and efficiently.
Safety & Leadership
Demonstrate visible leadership in safety and compliance across all work groups.
Conduct workplace inspections, hazard reporting, and participation in incident investigations where required.
Promote a high-performance culture built on teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
