The day to day
ALS Inspection is seeking to employ a hardworking and reliable Casual Sampler to assist in supervising the inspection of vessels. Reporting to the Inspection Supervisor, the role will primarily be responsible for supervising the inspection of incoming ships, as well as monitoring and maintaining Quality and Safety compliance, when the ships are in port (approximately 4-5 days per vessel, 3-4 vessels per month).

If you like being outdoors, are curious, motivated and looking for a challenge, this might be the role for you. We will commit to providing you all the training and support you need if you bring your enthusiasm for learning and willingness to get your hands dirty.

Primary tasks will include:

  • Supervision of vessel discharge
  • Supervision of sampling
  • Supervision of moisture determination
  • Supervision of sample preparation
  • Supervision of dispatch of samples
  • Strong health and safety focus
  • Ensure all task are completed in accordance with QWI, NATA and ISO requirements
  • Report safety incidents per company procedures

The Essentials

  • Experience in any role on the port (preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided)
  • Ability, availability and flexibility to work shift work (round the clock supervision when vessel is in port - in conjunction with casual staff)
  • Reliable and an exceptional work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise and organise tasks
  • Computer literacy
  • Local to Port Pirie (this is not a FIFO or DIDO role due to the hours and flexibility required)
  • A 'can do' attitude
