About Us

McCahills Organics operates a leading composting and organic waste processing facility in North Queensland, supporting councils, industry and agriculture through sustainable waste and resource recovery solutions.

As a key part of a well-established and growing group, we are focused on delivering high-quality organic products while driving innovation, operational excellence and environmental responsibility across the region.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations & Commercial Manager – Organics to lead our composting facility and drive its next phase of growth.

This is a senior, practical leadership role suited to someone who is equally comfortable operating in a heavy equipment environment as they are building customer relationships and growing revenue.

The Role

You will be responsible for the full operational and commercial performance of the composting facility, ensuring efficient site operations while expanding market presence and profitability.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing the composting operation, ensuring smooth receivals, processing, and logistical coordination
• Leading and developing site staff, contractors and operators
• Ensuring compliance with environmental, safety and regulatory requirements
• Driving sales of compost and organic products and developing new market opportunities
• Building strong relationships with councils, farmers, landscapers and commercial customers
• Managing site costs, margins and operational efficiencies
• Working closely with the General Manager on strategy, growth and capital planning

About You

You are commercially minded but practical, and confident taking responsibility for a site and business unit.

You will ideally bring:

• Experience in organics, composting, waste, agriculture, recycling or a related industry
• Strong people leadership and the ability to build a capable, motivated team
• A track record in sales, business development or customer relationship management
• Good working knowledge of heavy machinery and site-based operations
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset and strong work ethic
• Financial and commercial acumen, with an understanding of margins, costs and growth
• A hands-on leadership style — you lead from the front, not the office

Formal qualifications are valued, but practical experience, judgement and attitude matter more. If you are looking for a role where you can genuinely run and grow a business — not just manage a site — we would love to hear from you.

What This Role Offers

• Lead a critical, growing operation in a future-focused industry
• Support from a strong, established parent group
• Long-term career opportunity in a well-backed, expanding business
• Competitive remuneration reflective of experience
