Development Compliance Officer

Are you passionate about ensuring responsible development and upholding community standards? Mackay Regional Council is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Development Compliance Officer to join our Planning, Growth & Sustainability team.

As a Development Compliance Officer, you will:

• Investigate reports of unlawful or non-complying development and breaches of approval conditions.
• Conduct audits and property inspections to ensure compliance with guidelines, relevant acts and Council requirements.
• Liaise with offenders, conduct follow-up inspections, prepare correspondence, and coordinate legal enforcement actions as needed.
• Provide expert advice on compliance matters to internal and external stakeholders.
• Represent Council in legal proceedings and collaborate with other departments and legal advisers.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge in regulatory compliance, auditing, or investigation (preferably within Local Government).
• Knowledge of Local Government operations and the regulatory framework.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to maintain independence, professionalism, and objectivity.
• Sound time management and task prioritisation abilities.
• Current QLD “C” Class Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

• Trade Certificate in Building, Plumbing, or similar.
• Certificate in Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Investigation, or similar.
• Understanding of relevant Legislative Acts and Australian Standards (e.g, Planning Act 2016, Building Act 1975, Plumbing & Drainage Act 2018, Environmental Protection Act 1974 & relevant Local Laws).
