As a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist in Anaesthesia, you will be part of a high-functioning team that supports a 305-bed referral facility and an 8-bed ICU/HDU complex. Our department is a hub of education, currently supporting a diverse range of trainees from the Queensland Anaesthesia Rotational Training Scheme and the College of Intensive Care Medicine.

About us:

Rockhampton Hospital is the main referral hub for Central Queensland, featuring four operating theatres, two procedure rooms, and a brand-new, state-of-the-art integrated cancer care service. Our Anaesthesia team provides comprehensive care for everything from obstetrics and orthopaedics to ENT and dental procedures. We pride ourselves on being a single, integrated service that fosters strong community partnerships and ensures every Central Queenslander has access to world-class healthcare.

About the role:
  • Provide high-quality clinical anaesthesia services and administrative leadership within the department.
  • Supervise and mentor anaesthetic trainees, junior medical staff, and medical students to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Lead evidence-based practices and maintain clear communication across the patient's continuum of care.
  • Conduct acute pain service rounds, pre-anaesthetic clinics, and support a wide variety of surgical specialties.
  • Participate in the after-hours and weekend on-call roster to support emergency services.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, risk management, and quality assurance programs across the health service.
About you:
  • You hold an MBBS or equivalent and are eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • You possess a Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent specialist recognition.
  • You have extensive clinical experience and the ability to deliver quality specialist care in a regional setting.
  • You demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and participation in formal continuing medical education programs.
  • You are a collaborative leader with high-level interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • You are dedicated to teaching and have experience supervising staff at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $571,003 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary between $216,643 - $274,678 p.a. (L18 – L24; L25 – L27)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
